Condom Labeling
Recent studies showing that condoms don't protect against the human papillomavirus, or HPV, a widespread sexually transmitted disease that can cause genital warts or cervical cancer have prompted the Bush Administration to consider requiring new warning labels on condom packages. Labels now say that condoms can reduce the risk of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. They're silent on the issue of HPV. Some lawmakers fear the labels could do more harm than good by turning people away from using condoms. 1/4 or more of the population has genital herpes in some form or another. Like chlymidia, HPV is commonly dormant, most people dont know they have it and/or have never had an outbreak. Stating the warning "get regular checkups" or "ask your health care provider if you have questions" may help stop those from not using them because the consequences of not using condoms get alot worse.
